Standards references inside calculations

See the exact codes and formulas behind your calculations - no codebook required. Every formula is linked to the standard and clause that governs it, visible inside the calculation.

The problem

Standards that get consulted once and then ignored

Engineers reference the standard when writing a calculation, then move on. The connection between formula and source is rarely documented in the final output. When a reviewer asks which clause applies, the engineer has to find it again - and sometimes finds a different clause than the one originally used.

How it works

  1. 01

    Every formula has a source

Calcs.com shows the standard name, year, and clause number next to each formula. The reference is part of the calculation, not a separate annotation.

  2. 02

    Standards update when Calcs.com updates

When a standard is revised, Calcs.com's calculations update to reflect the new requirements. The version used is recorded, so historical calculations remain traceable.

  3. 03

    Reviewers can verify without asking

The basis of design is visible in every calculation output. Reviewers can check the standards reference directly from the PDF report without returning to the engineer.

What engineers say

I like that Calcs.com shows the code reference section for each calculation and function. That means every time I use it, there's a potential for me to learn something.

Frequently asked questions

Which standards does Calcs.com reference?
Calcs.com includes references to AS/NZS 1170, AS 4100, NZS 3404, ASCE 7, Eurocode 3, and other structural standards relevant to each calculator. The full list of supported standards is shown on each calculator's page.
How does Calcs.com handle updates when a standard is revised?
When a standard is revised, Calcs.com updates the affected calculations and documents the change. Existing calculations retain the version that was current when they were run.
Can I add my own standards references to a calculation?
Calcs.com's built-in references cover the supported standards. Custom annotations can be added as notes to a calculation for jurisdiction-specific or project-specific requirements.
